2011 Entrepreneurship Barometer
Ernst & Young report

The 2011 Entrepreneurship Barometer was produced for the G20 Young Entrepreneur Summit, held in Nice in early November 2011 in the context of the G20 summit. The report, prepared by Oxford Analytica's Advisory Practice for Ernst & Young, contains a uniquely in-depth analysis of the environment for entrepreneurs in each of the G20 countries.

The Barometer focused on: culture; education & training; access to funding; regulation & taxation; and coordinated support among government agencies and other institutions.

A key finding: self-confidence is key

Graph: Entrepreneurs' confidence and new business density

We combined and analysed four sets of inputs:

  • A survey of some 1,000 entrepreneurs commissioned for this project;
  • a comprehensive analysis of existing hard data;
  • Examples of best practices; and
  • entrepreneur success stories

From these inputs we established sets of recommendations for how governments can improve the environment for entrepreneurs, as well as recommendations for how entrepreneurs can enhance their chances of succeeding.
